Nomenclature Unjustified emendation of Akera Müller, 1776. Opinion 1079 (1977, Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature, 34: 16-20) placed Acera Cuver, 1810, on the Official Index as if Cuvier had introduced a new genus independent of Müller's Akera. However, Cuvier (1810: 4) explicitly cited Akera Müller (there respecting the original spelling), and Kadolsky (2009, Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature, 66(2): 130) has convincingly argued that Acera Cuvier, 1810, is an unjustified emendation. In Cuvier (1810), the name mostly appears as vernacular "les Acères" intended for gastropods lacking cephalic tentacles, but appears on page 11 as Latin binomen Acera carnosa. The ICZN (Opinion 539) had previously placed "Acera Lamarck, 1812" and "Acera Rafinesque, 1815" on the Official Index of Rejected Names. [details]
