Taxonomy Burton (1930) assigned Reniera labyrinthica to Clathria (followed later on by Hooper, 1996). However, Schmidt's specimen is likely a member of the variable species Crambe crambe according to Van Soest, 2002 (Systema Porifera).
Later, Burton assigned the species to Haliclona based on specimens from the Gulf of Guinea. The latter material presumably concerns an unknown Haliclona, provisionally named Haliclona labyrinthica sensu Burton, 1956. [details]
