Taxonomic remark Robinson et al. (2016) comment how earlier authors (Cooper, 1973) suggested that T. rubiginosa and T. enzenspergeri are almost identical (the latter likely a synonym of Aerothyris kerguelensis). The synonymy of T. rubiginosa under Terebratella dorsata is uncertain with both BrachNet (2023) and Emig's (2017) "Atlas of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic Brachiopoda" noting the synonymy as tentative with a proceeding question mark "?Terebratella rubiginosa Dall, 1871".
