Misapplication: The identification of the sponge in this paper is cited to be made by R.W.M. van Soest, but this is incorrect. The sponge voucher has not been examined by him. The locality, south coast of Hainan, China, makes it extremely unlikely that the species occurred there. The identity of the sponge studied in this paper is unknown.
