Type material The original material (described as Hymeraphia geniculata) was a mixture of several unrelated species, see Topsent, 1894: 23 and Topsent, 1904: 158. The redescribed material is assigned to Rhabdoploca curvispiculifera as a variety in Topsent, 1928: 43. R. curvispiculfera was reassigned to Cerbaris by Alvarez & Van Soest, 2002, so by inference the var. geniculata is reassigned as well. This Azores deep water variety should probably be raised to species level, as the typical variety is from South India (Gulf of Mannar). [details]
