Taxonomic remark Possibly the same as Phanogenia typica Lovén, 1866, originally described from Singapore. Messing (1998) distinguished the type specimen of P. typica from P. gracilis on the basis of its significantly longer pinnule combs: 24–29 teeth on P1, and rarely fewer than 10 teeth on brachial pinnules, whereas similarly large or larger specimens attributed to P. gracilis have P1 with 10–16 teeth and almost always <10 teeth on subsequent pinnules. However, Messing & Tay (2016) found both long- and short-combed specimens, otherwise morphologically identical, at Singapore and treated all as P. typica. [details]
