Status Chondrilla caribensis was determined to occur in two ecological forms which appear to have a genetic basis, C. caribensis forma caribensis which is characteristically found in mangrove habitats, and C. caribensis forma hermatypica occurring in reef habitats. Despite being genetically distinct, these forms do not appear to be taxa of the species group in the sense of the ICZN, so the names of the forms are at present not available as scientific names for recognized taxa (but they can of course be used to distinguish specimens).  [details]
