Note Desqueyroux-Faúndez & Valentine (2002: 913)...
Type material Desqueyroux-Faúndez & Valentine (2002: 913) selected Schmidt's specimen LMJG 15330 as 'lectotype' for the species Rayneria dura Nardo, 1833. The original material of Nardo has so far not been found, but Schmidt's material cannot be designated as holo- or lectotype as it is not part of the original type material (ICZN art. 74). What the authors should have done (and possibly meant to do) is to designate Schmidt's specimen as neotype. So far (2025) there is no properly designated type for R.dura and its senior synonym Spongia ficiformis Poiret, 1789, accepted as Petrosia (Petrosia) ficiformis. [details]
