Stylactaria mar, n. sp. is described from material collected on tubes of the sabellid polychaete Pseudopotamilla reinformis Brugierre, 1789 in Bahia de Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico. The hydroid colony is polymorphic, having gastrozooids, gonozooids, and tentaculozooids. The bases of the zooids are sheated in perisarc, leaving a distinct collar when polyps disintegrate. Gonophores were not fully developed in the examined material, but arise on gonozooids just beneath the tentacular whorl. Nematocysts of gastrozooids and gonozooids included desmonemes, haplonemes, and heterotrichous microbasic euryteles. S. mar is the first species of the genus to be reported from the eastern Pacific Ocean.Descriptors: Stylactaria mar new species, Hydractinia marfig. 1. (viii.1993).
