Pettibone (1966: 97) gives Malmgren, 1867 as authority for designation of Aphrodita aculeata Linneaus, 1758 as type species of Halithea. Since Aphrodita aculeata Linneaus, 1758 is also type species of Aphrodita Linneaus, 1758 (Hartman, 1959; Barnich & Fiege, 2003 and others cited therein) then Halithea Lamarck, 1818 falls in synonymy with Aphrodita Linneaus, 1758.

Authority Lamarck, 1818 states that many annelid taxa were from a manuscript prepared by Savigny.
