Etymology Not stated, unknown. The name of the genus could be derived from 'Hermundur', the Icelandic and Faroese younger form of 'Hermundr', but it was not possible to confirm this possibility. Nobody with this name was found associated with the author of the genus, Johan Friedrich Theodor (Fritz) Müller (1821-1897). [details]Synonymy Salazar-Vallejo (1990) established Hermundura was a senior synonym first of Parandalia, and later (1998) of Loandalia, but elected then to use the name Loandalia for the species group. Glasby & Hocknull (2010) assert that this usage cannot prevail under ICZN 1999 rules. [details]
