Type locality Coves near "Corumel" [= probably El Coromuel Beach], La Paz, Mexico, Gulf of California (gazetteer estimate 24.202°, -110.301°), between Porites corals. [details]
Type material Rioja (1947: 207) refers that the type is deposited in the collections of the Instituto de Biología of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Glasby & Hutchings (2014: 74) comment that "We believe that these collections [of the Institute of Biology] were transferred at some point to the National Museum in Mexico City, which was damaged during an earthquake."
