Etymology Evidently named 'macrophthalmum' for possessing large eyes, as shown in the original figure, and mentioned in the text as "4 großen Augen". Macrophthalmus (large eye) is a widely used compound, usually treated as an adjectival construction, and thus adjusted for genus gender, although it could be treated as a compound noun. Neuter 'macrophthalmum' is a rarely found usage, but otherwise a correct construction if the word is intended to be adjectival. [details]
