Status Briefly described, without figures. Pettibone (1986: 3) stated that ""Types were not available in the Paris Museum for I. hirta and it is considered to be questionable." Some authors treated I. hirta as a synonym of I. muricata. This is obviously paradoxical treatment if the species is so poorly described it is indeterminable. Grube (1876) treated it as a valid species, and differentiated it as having 11 elytral pairs and 26 segments. [details]

Type specimen The type specimen is presumed lost. Pettibone (1986) reported it was apparently no longer in the Paris Museum, and Weiss et al (2004) do not report it in their catalogue. [details]
