Although at the time Day used the spelling "Mocambique" with a cedilla for mentions of the country in his text, in taxonomy 'mossambica' is a commonly used Latinization for the country name. Etymology Not stated, but Nereis (Neanthes) mossambica was evidently named for the country of collection, Mozambique. Although at the time Day used the spelling "Mocambique" with a cedilla for mentions of the country in his text, in taxonomy 'mossambica' is a commonly used Latinization for the country name. [details]Type designation Day had two specimens from Morrumbene Estuary. He clearly designates one as holotype ("The larger which measures 35 mm. for 66 segments, is designated the holotype." According to Villalobos-Guerrero et al (2021) this specimen is NHMUK 1961.16.22 at the Natural History Museum London, and the other is SAM-A-20984 in the South African Museum. [details]
