Publication
A new species of the polynoid genus Intoshella Darboux, 1899 was found inside a deep-sea hexactinellid sponge collected by the ROV ‘Faxian’ from a seamount near the Mariana Trench at a depth of 890 m. Morphologically, Intoshella dictyaulus sp. nov. differs from the congeners in having 18 pairs of elytra, neurochaetae with both unidentate and bidentate tips, and elytral margin without papillae and surface without microtubercles. It is the first record of the association between Intoshella and the deep-sea hexactinellid sponge genus Dictyaulus Schulze, 1896. Additionally, based on COI and 18S rRNA gene sequences of the new species, the systematic status of Intoshella was explored through molecular phylogenetic approach.
