Taxonomy Monro (1933: 1047) established the new combination Laonice japonica (Moore, 1907), considering the species as valid and...
Taxonomy Monro (1933: 1047) established the new combination Laonice japonica (Moore, 1907), considering the species as valid and distinct from Laonice cirrata (M. Sars), contrary to what had been suggested by Söderström (1920: 220-223). Monro (1933: 1047) was tentatively recording L. japonica from the Pacific coast of Panama based on an anterior end. Later Banse & Hobson (1968: 25) supported the validity of L. japonica, but stated that the specimen from Panama seemed to be a different species. [details]

Taxonomy Monro (1933: 1047) established the new combination Laonice japonica (Moore, 1907), considering the species as valid and distinct from Laonice cirrata (M. Sars), contrary to what had been suggested by Söderström (1920: 220-223). Monro (1933: 1047) was tentatively recording L. japonica from the Pacific coast of Panama based on an anterior end.
