Type locality Hartman catalogue (p.564) gives the type locality as Mediterranean Sea, but that seems to be incorrect. as Grube (1870) names the location as "port du roi georges" which is most likely to be a reference to King George Sound (Western Australia) [details]

Editor's comment This name usage is unresolved. Grube indicates Quatrefages is the author (by using the 'Qf' abbreviation, but this seems to be a mistake as there is no reference to a page in Quatrefages volumes, unlike the preceding and following species names, and Grube says the species is not in Quatrefages' books. Perhaps it was a reference to a museum label. Investigation of usages is not easy as in the Biodiversity Heritage library (BHL) the name seems confused with a plant.
