Etymology The subspecific epithet praecirrata (masculine: praecirratus) is a New Latin adjective meaning 'before the cirri', and refers to the position of the occipital tentacle on the prostomium, placed before or at the level of the first pair of parapodia: ''Der Variationsname praecirrata bezieht sich auf die Stellung dieses Occipitaltentakels vor oder auf der Höhe der 1. Parapodien'' (Hartmann-Schröder, 1965: 207). The subspecific epithet is composed by the Latin prefix prae-, meaning 'before' or 'in front', and the Latin adjective cirrata (masculine: cirratus), meaning 'having cirri'. [details]
