Etymology The subspecific epithet corallicola derives from the combining form coralli of the Latin word corallium, meaning 'coral', and the Latin suffix -cola, meaning 'dweller' or 'inhabitant', and refers to the habitat of the subspecies, which was found living on the corals Seriatopora and Stylophora.

Habitat On Seriatopora and Stylophora corals, and amongst algae at subfossil coral reefs, at shallow water. [details]
New combination Wehe & Fiege (2002: 147) state that "following Hartman (1959), Pterosyllis formosa corallicola is a distinct subspecies, but according to Licher (2000), it belongs to Amblyosyllis Grube, 1857". However it was not possible to find any reference to Pterosyllis formosa corallicola in the cited work by Licher, for which reason the new combination is here attributed to Wehe & Fiege (2002).
