Etymology Not stated by the author. The specific epithet heterotricha is composed by the prefix of Greek origin hetero-, meaning 'different', and the combining form of Greek origin -tricha, meaning 'having hair' or 'haired', and refers presumably to the many different types of chaetae presented by the species (up to four different types). It could also be a reference to the unique and different setation of the species in relation to Eurythoe complanata (Pallas, 1766), a close species to which it is compared throughout its description. Taxonomy Current taxon was considered to be a junior synonym of a species listed. Fauvel (1953: 85) synonymized the species with Eurythoe parvecarunculata Horst, 1912, but according to Borda et al. (2012: 320), "Fauvel’s (1953) referral of Eurythoe heterotricha to Amphinome [sic] parvecarunculata fails to account for significant differences in the caruncle". For this reason the species is here considered as valid. [details]
