Nomenclature Included in WoRMS via the Hartman catalogue, where she includes "Mus marinus Linnaeus, 1756" in the Aphroditidae as a usage in McIntosh (1900: 247). There McIntosh had included the name in the synonymy of Aphrodita aculeata. He frequently included names which predate 1758. However, this is before the start of binominal zoological nomenclature and thus the name is historic, informal, and unavailable. Linnaeus had used the name as a synonym under Aphrodita at least twice before the 1756 occurrence, dating at least from 1746 in Fauna Suecica (p.367) where he indicates he collected the name via a usage in a publication abbreviated as "Dal. harv." and entry number 394.
