The specific epithet dubia (masculine: dubius) is a Latin adjective meaning 'dubious', 'doubtful' or 'undetermined', and presumably refers to the dubious taxonomic assignation of the species, as it is stated to resemble superficially Orbinia angrapequensis (Augener, 1918) and also to show many resemblances with Scoloplos armiger (Müller, 1776). The species was later moved by the author to the genus Scolaricia Eisig, 1914 (now considered to be synonymous with Scoloplos Blainville, 1828. [details]
