Synonymy Grube (1846) does not describe Sabella rubripunctata as he does his other new Sabella. Rather it is a new name he applied in text flow discussion for the sabellid Rathke (1843) described and misidentified as Montagu's Sabella volutacornis. The Hartman Catalogue refers Sabella rubripunctata Grube, 1846 to Chone infundibuliformis Krøyer, 1856 for unstated reasons, but assumed to be proposed in literature prior to 1959 (Hartman never cites her sources) . However, Grube's name is senior. Hartman may have seen Augener (1912: 188). In that work Augener included comments (in his description of Jasmineira schaudinni) on Rathke's specimens obtained from the Königsberg Museum that Rathke had assigned to Sabella volutacornis in 1843. Augener says Rathke's specimens are Chone infundibuliformis Krøyer, 1856, and not genus Jasmineira, as alternatively has been suggested by Saint-Joseph, and that Grube's new name is superfluous. However, Grube's name is earlier than Krøyer's and has priority. See Chone infundibuliformis. [details]Unreviewed
