Hydroides abbreviata is probably a senior synonym of H. elegans, but has not been used as a valid name after 1899, whereas H. elegans has hundreds of usages. Authority Mörch evidently examined a museum specimen already informally named by Krøyer. Therefore he credited the name to Krøyer. Strictly this may not be correct ICZN practice, but there may have also been a Krøyer description and thus it seems best to maintain the combined authorship.
