Type locality Reported as two worms from two collection sites, Lome, Togo (on a pier), 6.1410° 1.2807, and Isla Annobón, -1.4063° 5.6373°, both in Gulf of Guinea, West Africa. Augener describes each specimen separately. Only the Annobón specimen remains as an H. arnoldi[details]

Etymology Not stated. Evidently named after its collector Arnold Schultze [details]Holotype Zibrowius (1973: reports a holotype "Annobon, coll. Arnold SCHULTZE, 7.XI.1911 (holotype, ZMH V. 8724)." The basis for this is uncertain as there were two specimens, the other from Lome, and Augener does not name a type, thus they were syntypes, and there can be no holotype. Zibrowius (1973) commented that, based on Augener's description, the Lome specimen, missing from ZMH, was different, and he assigned the Lome occurrence to his then new species, Hydroides augeneri Zibrowius, 1973 .
