Etymology Not stated by the author. The specific epithet rumphii clearly honours the German-born naturalist Georg Eberhard Rumphius (1627-1702), enlisted with the Dutch East India Company in what is now Indonesia, and who later dedicated most of his life to the study of the flora and fauna of the Mollucas, especially of the island of Amboina. There are numerous other species of plants and animals named in honour of Rumphius (originally Rumpf) through the specific epithet rumphii (e.g. Virgularia rumphii Kölliker, 1870; Lioconcha rumphii van der Meij, Moolenbeek & Dekker, 2010).
