Type locality Caribbean Sea (Florida Keys and south coast Jamaica). It appears Schmarda had only one specimen, so his reference to two localities is confusing. [details]

Synonymy Salazar-Silva (2010) does not include Polynoe polytricha Schmarda, 1861 from Jamaica and the Florida Keys in the synonymy of Harmothoe crucis (only including the record under P. polytricha by Ehlers, 1887), apparently on the basis the macrotubercles of Schmarda's figure are different. However, Schmarda's figure is small, and not detailed enough to be sure of this. [details]Type locality Caribbean Sea (Florida Keys and south coast Jamaica).
