Distribution This species was first reported from the Indian Ocean on the coast of Madagascar, but later it was
reported from the Mediterranean region. Relatively recently, it has been reported from the Maldives and the
coast of Brazil. In our opinion such a distribution, although possible, needs verification (see remarks for H. r.
antillensis and H. r. remanei). It is a subtidal and interstitial species reported from different types of sand and
detritus. [details]
