Biology Type of larval development: direct (non planktotrophic) denoted by paucispiral protoconch. [details]

Diagnosis  Shell 2.3 to 2.7 mm high, with protoconch of a little more than 1.25 whorls and teleoconch of 3 to 3.5 whorls. Protoconch smooth, teleoconch with variably developed axial ribs sometimes projecting with an angle at a short distance from the suture on the body whorl. A few (three to four) hardly distinct spiral cords on the periumbilical area
Teleoconch with characteristic “Porosalvania” microsculpture consisting of minute (ca. 1 µm) pits randomly distributed, visible only under high magnification of scanning electron microscope.
Outer lip thickened externally, mostly in the adapical part at a short distance from the edge, then thinning out to a cutting edge; smooth inside. Shell white.

This species collected on the deeper part of Hyères seamount most resembles P. solidula Gofas, 2007 found in the shallower part but differs in being stouter, with more ribs on the spire whorls, more instances of an angle at some distance from the suture (in this respect resembling P. angulifera Gofas, 2007), fewer and more distinct spirals on the abapical surface and sometimes even on the whorls. It differs from P. angulifera in being larger with more ribs, in lacking an angle on the early spire whorls and in having a smooth protoconch.  [details]
