Brief information about the history of the description of the genus Asteromyzostomum and the terminological problem that arose as a result of this is given. A comparison of the main morphological and ecological signs of Asteromyzostomum and the rest of the myzostomid was performed. On this basis, a new family of Asteromyzostomidae was allocated and its differential diagnosis was given.
[English summary] The history of genus Asteromyzostomum description and terminological problem that appeared as a result of this are briefly observed. The main diagnostic morphological and ecological traits of Asteromyzostomum and rest myzostomids are compared. Based on the results of comparison is created new family Asteromyzostomidae with one genus Asteromyzostomum and three species. The differential diagnosis for this family is given.
[Editor footnote] When disassembling the scientific archive by V.L. A few brief draft sketches were found of the change of the name of the genus Asteromyzostomum to Plicatomyzostomum and the need based on this kind of creation of a new family as part of the order Pharyngidea. These rough sketches are dated 1982–1983. He wrote to me in August-September 1983 about the need to prepare such a message, ie, shortly before death. The text of this article was compiled on the basis of its rough sketches and publications with a first description of Asteromyzostomum (Wagin, 1954) with minimal additions. Option the change of the genus name was dropped due to the prohibition of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, but all the main idea of V.L. Wagin on giving this genus family status in the text remained. In addition to the data of V.L. Wagin should be noted that M. Grygier (Smithsonian Institute, Washington) in a letter dated June 10, 1986 reported on the discovery of a fourth species, Asteromyzostomum, in the Antarctic waters. If so, then the range of the family is bipolar, or these myzostomids have a wider spread and while in lower latitudes not found. This is quite possible due to the extremely low myzostomid research over the past 50 years.
