Nomenclature Hydroides affinis was previously annotated as a nomen oblitum in WoRMS. However, reversal of precedence (Art.23.9) in favour of Hydroides helmata cannot be applied for this name as it has been used more than once since 1899, most recently as valid by Zibrowius (1968:115) [details]

[details]

Editor's comment It appears H. affinis (Marion, 1875) needs to be dealt with again in a publication to consider its status as a name, as it clearly has priority over H. helmata (Iroso, 1921). Meantime the taxon it represents is placed here as a taxon inquirendum. [details]Grammatical gender Agreement: Masculine and feminine forms of the adjective 'affinis' are identical. [details]
Synonymy Zibrowius (1971) placed Hydroides affinis under Hydroides helmata (Iroso, 1921), the better known name, however H. affinis is senior [details]
