Taxonomy The species currently referred to as Tonna perdix (Linnaeus, 1758) was referred to as Buccinum perdix by (a. o.): Born (1778:229); Bruguière (1789:245); Gmelin (1791:3470); Dillwyn (1817:583); Wood (1825:103); Hanley (1855:240) [details]Type designation Type material preserved in LSL, London and consists of two syntypes. Beu (2005:124) designated the larger specimen (marked both "378" and "perdix" on the inner side of the lip (cf Sys. Nat. 10th Ed.)) as lectotype. [details]
