From editor or global species database
Additional information Smith (1894:367) refers to an earlier publication by Wood-Mason & Alcock (1891:15-16) as Sycotypus sp. as well as a (unpublished?) manuscript by the same authors in which they refer to this species as Sycotypus investigatoris [details]Publication date Varhaeghe & Poppe (2000:16) list this species with authority "E. A. Smith, 1906". However, in the 1906 continuation of his reports, Smith does not mention this species, only Pirula ficoides Lamarck. The actual description took place in an earlier report, published in 1894, also in the Annals and Magazine of Natural History. As Verhaeghe & Poppe list both references in the Bibliography list, it is here assumed that this is a mere confusion between the two biobliographic references. [details]
