One new free-living marine nematode belonging to the genus Bathylaimus was discovered in the Bohai Sea, China and is described here as Bathylaimus gracilis sp. nov. It is characterized by tail slightly dimorphism, cylindrical in males, conico-cylindrical in females; outer labial setae about 1 cephalic diameter long, triple-jointed with a stout distal segment; amphideal fovea spiral with 1.25 turns; buccal cavity deep, bucket shaped with minute tooth-like projections; spicules almost straight, proximal end cephalated, distal end pointed; gubernaculum large, swollen distally with cuticularized lateral teeth at distal end. The new species differs from other congeners mainly by the slender body, long and slightly dimorphism tail, outer labial setae triple-jointed with sucker-like distal segment, deep buccal cavity with minute tooth-like projections and spiral amphid with 1.25 turns, situated at the level with buccal cavity base. An updated identification key for valid species of the genus Bathylaimus is also given.
