Taxonomy "When Hofker described this species he did not nominate a type locality but had material from the Caribbean and Indonesia. Later, in 1952, Hofker realised that the specimens from the two regions were different species and erected a new species Putelina malayensis for the East Indies material. Thus the type region for orbitilitoides is the Caribbean and all specimens of this species recorded from the Pacific are likely Laevipeneroplis malayensis." pers. comm. W. Renema 2023. [details]
