Distribution Material from Rottnest Island (Western Australia) and Darwin harbour (Northern territory) was identified as this species in two previous studies (Erséus 1993, 1997). However, a reexamination of all this material, plus two of the Original specimens of H. claviatratus, revealed that a whole complex of very similar species of Heterodrilus occurs along the tropical and warm-temperate Australian coasts. Thus, the original record from the Great Barrier reef still is the only known occurance of H. claviatratus. [details]
