(2009: p. 97) argued not to use the family Echinocyamidae due to the fact that it was based on an erroneous interpretation of the genera Echinocyamus and Fibularia by Lambert. There are no uncontested synapomorphies for the genera usually included as members of this group. [details]

Authority This family-level taxon was first mentioned by Lambert (1900: p. 53(55)) as subfamily Echinocyaminæ. Although frequently attributed to Lambert & Thiéry (1914) the authority, therefore, is Lambert, 1900. [details]Status Srivastava et al.
