Twenty-three species of serpulids are recorded from Heron Island. Twenty-two of these belong to the subfamilies Serpulinae and Filograninae and probably include most of the species belonging to these subfamilies in the area. The remaining species belongs to the Spirorbinae. The distributional data support the longitudinal division of Queensland waters north of 25° latitude into the Solanderian (Reef) Prdvince and the Banksian (Mainland) Province. The occurrence of most serpulids recorded from Havannah Island, a mainland island, at Heron Island, suggests that all mainland islands between 16° and 20° latitude cannot be grouped faunistically with the mainland.
