This species was considered as insertae sedis in the genus Uristes by Lowry and Kilgallen (2014), based on the maxilla 1 teeth pattern depicted by Schellenberg (1931: figure 21e). Pérez-Schultheiss (2016) confirmed the typical 7/4 crown pattern and transferred formally this species to Uristes.
