Publication date This species was described as Doris schmeltziana by Bergh (1875) in the Journal des Museum Godeffroy 3(8) [p. 228 [96], pl. 8, figs. 34–37], who credited it to Garrett. Later works by Bergh treated it as “Discodoris (Dendrodoris) schmeltziana (Garr.) n. sp.” and “Discodoris schmeltziana (Garr.) n. sp.”, leading subsequent workers to date the species from as late as 1880. Details of this complex case were discussed by Bieler & Petit (2012: 63). [details]
