Authority Usage confused. Grube (1850) awards Savigny the prior authorship of Grube's "Lycoridea" [sic], while himself at this time restricts the membership of it to Nereis and Lycoris. However Savigny (1822:12) actually used the family name Nereides, separating Section 1. Nereides Lycoriennes for Lycoris and Nephthys, from Section 2. Nereides Glyceriennes for Aricia and Glycera, and Section 3. Nereides Sylliennes for Syllis. Nereis is not mentioned at this point. In fact Savigny does not use genus Nereis as valid. Usage in non-latinised style of a subgroup called "Nereides Lycoriennes" does not seem sufficient to merit Grube's attribution of a family name 'Lycorides' to Savigny, and it is unclear why Grube didn't use Nereididae if the older genus Nereis was then regarded as valid by him. However, this is a matter where opinions may differ. Hartman attributed the first usage of Lycoridae to Grube, and this view is followed here. Grube and also Ehlers continued to use Lycoridae for some time after 1850. Quatrefages (1866:488) has some discussion of the issue and places "Lycorydea [sic] Grube" [note the attribution of authorship to Grube] as a synonym of Family Nereidea [sic]. Quatrefages (p.501) placed Lycoris [attributed to Savigny] as a synonym of Nereis. Kinberg (1866) appears to ignore Lycoris in favour of Nereis, but creates several further nereid-group families of his own for the nereid-like genera, [details]
