Taxonomic remark Kajihara et al. (2013) demonstrate that Cephalothrix hongkongiensis Gibson 1990 and Cephalothrix simula (Iwata, 1952) are morphologically indistinguishable, making DNA comparison the only reliable way to identify these species.
Cephalothrix hongkongiensis Sundberg, Gibson and Olsson, 2003 is a replacement name for Procephalothrix arenaria Gibson, 1990. The original spelling (Procephalothrix arenarius)
is incorrect with respect to gender agreement. A replacement name is introduced to avoid secondary homonymy with Cephalothrix arenaria Hylbom, 1957. [details]
