a. Spine with encrusting organisms (Philippines). b. The long, banded and pointed spine comes from the margin, the two shorter ones with the widened ends are from the oral side (Philippines). c. Dark, strongly spindle-shaped spine with coarse thorns at the lower part of the shaft (lle de la RĂ©union). d. Two spindle-shaped spines with conspicuous thorns at the upper side, the underside has only granules (Japan). e. Two dark spines, only slightly tapering distally and with few, small thorns (Philippines).
