Description While having all the diagnostic traits of Leuckartiara gardinieri as described in the literature (4 tentacles, 4 perradial nematocysts bands reaching to the top of the bell, small bulbs with ocelli and minute tentacles between the four large tentacles), the present medusa has also an apical process. Leuckartiara gardinieri is usually depicted without such a process, but very few specimens have been described so far. Kramp (1961b) also mentions medusae from Australia with a blunt apical process of 1/3 of the bell height. In other Leuckartiara medusae with an apical process this characters shows often a large degree of variability in shape and size.
