Echinodiscus bisperforatus (repaired test)
Description Damage and regeneration of a sand dollar. The echinoids have an astonishing capacity of healing. Within some minutes after being damaged the animal begins to close the wound by a secretion of cells, which builds a calcareous meshwork that eventually becomes as solid as the test. This Echinodiscus bisperforatus had to create a new opening for the periproct, which lies normally more posteriorly.
Length of test 39 mm.
