Stylocidaris lineata (in situ)
Stylocidaris lineata (in situ)
Description This aggregation of Stylocidaris lineata sensu lato is likely to be a "breeding cluster". Two of the individuals are upright with the mouths closely together. This position seems to enhance the chances of fertilization, when the female releases ist eggs and a near-by male its sperms intp the seawater.
Off South Carolina.
