Miocene (Helvetian), Mohnian, Valmonte Diatomite, San Pedro, Los Angeles County, California, USA. 16, 17, Side and edge view of juvenile specimen showing low equatorial aperture and imperforate apertural face, x 50; 18, 19, slightly !arger juvenile with more elevated aperture and high imperforate area, x 50; 20, 21, !arger specimen with aperture beginning to extend up the apertural face and imperforate region continuing as an imperforate peripheral band, x SO; 22-24, opposite sides and edge view of adult showing equatorial aperture with slit extending up the apertural face, and also continuing along the spiral suture at the base of the chamber, x 50 (from Loeblich and Tappan, 1964).
