Christopher’s interests include the taxonomy, ecology, phylogenetic systematics of crustaceans, and host/parasite co-evolution. He is also interested in the biodiversity of invertebrates in general and has headed or participated in several major invertebrate surveys. He has published over 140 papers on a variety of invertebrate subjects, described 135 new taxa (species to family level), and has served as a consultant for several museums. He is currently the Laboratory Director for the Department of Biology at Hofstra University and a Research Associate at the American Museum of Natural History and Yale University and teaches at several local colleges and universities in an adjunct capacity. He is an Associate Editor for the peer-reviewed journal The Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington and served as the Program Officer for the international organization The Crustacean Society from 2005-2015. His goal, if re-elected to the Steering Committee, is to advocate for greater consistency of data entry across taxa (e.g., to work towards and track nearness to the goal of 100% type localities entered), as well as to work to devise strategies to increase the presence of WoRMS in the citations of the greater scientific and popular literature (i.e., to increase the number of Google Scholar citations and web citations in general), as well as to work with the other committee members to maintain, and increase, the number of the editors and quantity of the editorial work performed on the database. |
