Sancia is an evolutionary biologist and a tenured assistant professor at the University of Groningen, and heads a research group on Marine Evolutionary Ecology with a focus on host/symbiont evolution. She has been a WoRMS taxonomic editor since 2014, initially with a focus on Cryptochiroidea, but currently as an editor for all Decapoda in the Global Species Database DecaNet. Additionally she has been engaged in WoRMS selection committees, such as the WoRMS Achievement & Early Career awards and the WoRMS Top-Ten New Species awards. If elected for the Steering Committee, a particular focus would be on working towards a greater consistency across taxa and the addition and standardisation of traits data. She is also interested in connecting with the non-taxonomic research community to explore how WoRMS is used and what can be improved for their research needs (e.g. ease of use, trait information, distribution data, connection with other data portals, etc). |
